There are small handy cutting mats in A5 format and A4 format, but also large cutting mats in A3 format, A2 format and extra large cutting mats in A1 format.

Cutting mats differ not only in dimensions but also in quality.

You can often find cheap cutting mats at the Action. They are made of cheap materials and always have a core of cardboard. Unfortunately, those cutting mats don't last long. Because you use a cutting mat to cut with Stanley blades, snap-off knives and rotary cutters, the mat is quickly worn out. And after a little longer use it can even happen that you will just cut through the mat.
When buying cutting mats, cheap is often expensive, unfortunately!

These mats are of a high quality and will last for years. The surface is self-healing. And because the core is flexible, you cannot cut through the mat. These mats can also be used on two sides and are usually also printed on both sides with a grid and / or protractor, which is super handy!

Almost everything made of plastic reacts to heat.

So also cutting mats with a flexible core. A mat can therefore deform, for example during transport, or if you place the mat on one side, instead of lying down. This is because the core of the mat becomes softer with heat and cools in a different shape when it cools down.

It is therefore very important that you always store a cutting mat horizontally. And therefore really 100% horizontal and flat, not with a book or scissors underneath. The surface must really be 100% flat. So don't put it on the edge next to a desk or cupboard, etc.

And don't leave it on a desk in full sun! Even then the mat reacts to the heat and can deform.

If a cutting mat has started to deform, it does not affect the quality at all! If you place the mat on a flat surface again for some time, it will automatically become flat again. You can also use a hair dryer to warm the mat and press it flat. When cooled, the mat is flat again. Or you can put a stack of books on it for a night.
